VAGINAL DRYNESS – LET’S TALK ABOUT IT: PART III – AVAILABLE TREATMENTS

Are you one of the many women who suffer from vaginal dryness?

Let’s talk about available treatments.

In the blog, VAGINAL DRYNESS – LET’S TALK ABOUT IT: PART I – WHAT IT IS & CAUSES, we explained what it is and the causes. VAGINAL DRYNESS – LET’S TALK ABOUT IT: PART II – IMPACT ON YOUR DAILY LIFE discussed the impact it has on the daily life of women suffering from this very common condition.

We will now take a look at a few of the available treatments for vaginal dryness.

There are many over-the-counter remedies, such as water-based or silicone-lubricants, which can provide relief during sexual activity, as they help to reduce friction and enhance comfort.

Vaginal moisturizers can be applied regularly to help maintain moisture levels and can be used daily or as needed. Note must be made that vaginal moisturizers are different from lubricants mentioned in the previous paragraph.

Estrogen and hormone replacement therapies may be used to treat vaginal dryness caused by a hormonal imbalance. Localized estrogen treatments in the form of creams, rings or tablets, can help restore moisture and elasticity to vaginal tissues and is often recommended for postmenopausal women.

There are also non-hormonal medications which may be administered orally or as a vaginal insert to help alleviate the painful intercourse and improve vaginal moisture.

Natural remedies such as coconut oil (as a lubricant) and Vitamin E (applied topical or taken orally as a supplement) may help to improve vaginal moisture.

Lifestyle changes will not only have a positive impact on vaginal health, but will also improve overall health and wellness. Hydrating well can support overall vaginal health. Eating a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids can positively influence hormonal health.

Stress management through practices such as yoga or meditation can also improve hormonal balance and sexual health.

Alternative therapies such as acupuncture and pelvic floor therapy can help with relieving the symptoms of vaginal dryness.

Sound wave therapy focused on the vaginal tissues is another alternative, non-invasive therapy, which promotes the rejuvenation of blood capillaries, resulting in improved blood circulation to the vaginal tissue and improved vaginal moisture and overall sexual wellness.

This is a natural way to restore youthful moisture and spontaneity as it does not need to be applied daily and results can last for many years.

The importance of regular check-ups cannot be emphasized enough and is crucial to receiving personalized treatment options, especially if the vaginal dryness is persistent or severe.

Vaginal dryness can be effectively managed and it is important for women to discuss their symptoms with their healthcare provider in order to get relief and enhance their overall quality of life.
